Midnight Network Enters Permissionless Era with Smart Contract Deployment

The Midnight network has reached an important milestone as it transitions from its controlled launch phase to a more decentralized and permissionless model. Permissionless smart contract deployment is now live on the mainnet, allowing developers to deploy contracts directly without going through a security review.

This change comes six months after Midnight launched its mainnet in March, which initially used a more controlled deployment model while focusing on stability and security. The network has been gradually evolving toward a more decentralized model, and this transition marks an important step forward.

Developers can now deploy contracts directly to the mainnet without approval, giving them more freedom to launch decentralized applications (dApps) such as DeFi products, games, and privacy tools. This change also enables programmatically deployed contracts that can interact with each other.

The network has also been working on abstraction, hiding steps such as wallet setup, transaction funding, and fee management behind simpler application interfaces. Ecosystem partners have been collaborating to add infrastructure, including Google Cloud providing Midnight testnet infrastructure through its Web3 portal and Gero Wallet adding full support for Midnight dApps.
