OKX and ICE File for US Tokenized Stock Trading Platform
A joint venture between OKX, a major cryptocurrency exchange, and the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), has filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to establish a tokenized stock trading platform in the United States. The platform, which is the result of the partnership between OKX and ICE, aims to offer shares in companies listed on the NYSE as digital assets that can be traded on a blockchain.
The platform will initially include shares of 63 companies listed on the NYSE. These stock tokens will preserve the shareholders' rights, including dividend and voting rights. This means that as the shares trade on a blockchain, the digital asset will also carry the rights to receive the company's profit distributions and participate in shareholder votes.
The companies whose shares are planned to be offered will be given 30 days to opt out of the platform before trading begins. If a company decides to opt out, its shares will not be included in the initial scope of 63 companies.
