OKX Money App Expands Stablecoin Access for Emerging Markets
OKX has launched a new app called OKX Money, designed to help users in emerging markets convert their local currencies into dollar-backed stablecoins. The app supports more than 50 local currencies and allows users in Latin America, Africa, South Asia, and the Middle East to exchange them for Global Dollar (USDG), USD Coin (USDC), or Tether (USDT).
Eligible USDG balances can earn up to 10% annual percentage yield (APY), with no staking or lockup required. However, higher tiers may require a 30-day average deposit threshold, increased spending over the same period, or elevated exchange VIP status. The app also offers virtual and physical cards with no foreign-exchange markup, as well as a referral rewards program.
OKX Money addresses the challenge of payment delays and credit holds, according to Haider Rafique, OKX's global managing partner. The USDG stablecoin is issued by Paxos through the Global Dollar Network and is backed by reserves including US Treasury bills, money market funds, and cash. OKX joined the network in July 2025, with OKX Ventures founder Jeff Ren highlighting the move as a way to give customers greater choice and financial freedom.
The launch comes after a March funding round involving Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) that valued OKX at $25 billion. OKX Money joins a growing field of stablecoin savings apps aimed at markets with currency volatility, as exchanges compete for users seeking dollar exposure without traditional bank accounts.
