Paraguay Cracks Down on Illicit Crypto Mining Operations
Paraguay's authorities have been cracking down on illegal cryptocurrency mining operations. On September 17, one such facility in the Upper Paraná department was raided, resulting in the confiscation of 10 ASIC mining machines and fines totaling approximately $30,000. The site was drawing electricity through unmetered lines, which is a common tactic used by illicit miners to avoid detection.
Another operation took place on September 12, where authorities seized 25 mining machines from an unauthorized facility. This move comes as the Paraguayan Chamber of Deputies has passed a resolution requesting the National Electricity Administration to submit a report on the electricity consumption, pricing, and regulatory situation of the cryptocurrency mining industry.
