Peirce Exits SEC as Membership Falls to Two

SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce is leaving her position on October 2nd. This move reduces the agency's active membership to two members, Chairman Paul S. Atkins and Commissioner Mark T. Uyeda.

Peirce joined the SEC in January 2018 and will become an associate professor at Regent University School of Law in November. Her academic focus will be on securities regulation, financial markets, public policy, and digital assets.

She was set to lead the SEC's Crypto Task Force in 2025. The group is working on approaches to digital-asset regulation, including disclosure frameworks, registration pathways, and distinctions between securities and non-securities.
