Prysm Patches Sepolia Test Ahead of Ethereum’s Glamsterdam Upgrade
Prysm, a leading Ethereum consensus client, released version 7.2.1 on October 5 to prepare validators for the upcoming Glamsterdam test on the Sepolia network. The update defaults validators to a 200 million gas limit, addressing an oversight in version 7.2.0 that would have kept the gas limit at around 60 million. The Sepolia fork is scheduled to activate at 13:53 UTC on October 6, aiming to stress-test validator hardware and DeFi/DEX throughput.
The higher gas limit allows for more transactions and complex applications per block, though it also increases hardware demands on validators. This test is crucial for determining whether Ethereum's mainnet can handle significantly larger blocks. The patch also enables partial data columns and updates builder configuration to improve client readiness and reduce test risks.
The Glamsterdam upgrade has not yet been scheduled for the mainnet, and the Sepolia test results will inform developers about potential capacity increases. Validators running version 7.2.1 will automatically propose blocks with the new gas limit without any manual changes required.
