Regulatory Hurdles Stall Crypto Industry Progress
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) are advancing rules for the cryptocurrency industry, but the Clarity Act has stalled. Frank Holmes, CEO and chief investment officer of U.S. Global Investors, Inc., noted that these regulatory developments will provide clarity to investors.
The S&P/TSX Global Gold Index tracks leading gold companies worldwide, while the FTSE Gold Mines Index Series includes all gold mining companies with sustainable and attributable gold production of at least 300,000 ounces per year. As of June 30, 2007, notable holdings in the funds managed by U.S. Global Investors include Jiangxi Copper (1.74% of China Region Opportunity Fund), Silvercorp Metals Inc. (2.42% of China Region Opportunity Fund), and Gold Fields Ltd. (6.05% of Gold Shares Fund).
The SEC's and CFTC's efforts to regulate the cryptocurrency industry may bring much-needed clarity to investors, but the Clarity Act's stagnation raises questions about its effectiveness.
