Ripple's $1.49 Billion XRP Unlock: What's Behind the Numbers
Ripple has unlocked 1 billion XRP from escrow, a release valued at about $1.49 billion, as part of its routine monthly release. This unlock is a common occurrence, and most of the time, a significant portion of the released XRP is put back into escrow. This month, 400 million XRP, valued at $595.6 million, 200 million XRP, valued at $297.8 million, 300 million XRP, valued at $446.7 million, and 100 million XRP, valued at $148.9 million, were released.
While the unlock may seem alarming, most of the 1 billion XRP is returned to escrow, leaving only a fraction available for operational purposes, ecosystem initiatives, and other activities. In fact, according to ledger explorer data, 31.9% of the total supply of XRP, or 31.845 billion, remains in escrow.
Meanwhile, other notable events on the XRP Ledger include the settlement of over 10 million x402 payments, with a run rate of 500,000 payments per day, and the recording of securities ownership on a public blockchain by CSD BR, a central securities depository in Brazil.
