Robinhood Chain Fees Soar as Ethereum Settlement Costs Remain Low
Rapid growth on Layer 2 networks like Robinhood Chain doesn't necessarily translate to proportional economic value on Ethereum's mainnet, according to a recent analysis. On September 3, Robinhood Chain collected roughly $4.5 million in transaction fees while paying just $398 for data posting and proof-related costs on Ethereum.
Bitquery examined the network from April 30 through September 3 and found that it processed approximately 597 million transactions across 54 million blocks. The cumulative fees generated by Robinhood Chain during this period reached around $23 million, with most of the revenue coming in late August and early September.
The low settlement costs on Ethereum are due to the use of blobs, a temporary data space designed for rollups that allows Layer 2 systems like Robinhood Chain to publish compressed transaction information at much lower cost. This architecture is intended to reduce rollup settlement costs while still allowing those networks to use Ethereum for data availability.
