S&P Global Introduces DeFi Vault Risk Grading System

S&P Global has introduced a new risk assessment framework for DeFi lending vaults, assigning them letter grades ranging from AAA(v) to D(v). The Vault Risk Assessment system allows the curator managing a vault to adjust or cap the final score. Despite launching the framework, S&P Global has not yet evaluated any specific vaults under this new system.

The grading system aims to provide transparency and risk evaluation for DeFi lending platforms, which have seen rapid growth but also significant volatility. By offering standardized ratings, S&P Global hopes to help investors and institutions make more informed decisions when engaging with DeFi vaults.

No vaults have been assessed yet, leaving the effectiveness and accuracy of the new system untested in real-world scenarios. The ability for curators to influence the final grade adds a layer of complexity, as it introduces potential biases or subjective adjustments into the evaluation process.
