SBF Accused of Buying Uniswap.com for 'Flex' Amidst WIPO Domain Dispute
Hayden Adams, co-founder of Uniswap Labs, has made some explosive claims about Sam Bankman-Fried's involvement in the crypto space. According to Adams, SBF paid seven figures for the Uniswap.com domain and redirected it to a Uniswap fork as a way to 'flex' on the company.
The dispute over the domain dates back to May 18, 2021, when Uniswap Labs filed a complaint with WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) against the registered holder of Uniswap.com. The domain had originally been registered on July 30, 2000, but was acquired by its current owner in April 2021.
At the time, the domain was redirecting visitors to a SushiSwap page, which WIPO identified as operating in the same financial market as Uniswap. The respondent later changed the domain to promote the trade of sea urchin using the Japanese term 'uni.'
WIPO found that the use of the domain created a likelihood of confusion with Uniswap Labs' trademark and did not qualify as legitimate use. The panel concluded that the domain had been acquired and used in bad faith, and ordered it to be transferred to Uniswap Labs four months later.
