Share

SBI Holdings has completed its acquisition of Japanese cryptocurrency exchange Bitbank, making Bitbank a wholly-owned subsidiary of the financial conglomerate.

The acquisition, which was completed on October 1, 2026, was the result of months of negotiations between the two firms.

According to the announcement, SBI Holdings purchased the shares of Bitbank President & CEO Noriyuki Hirosue and several individual stockholders, issuing new shares to SBICAH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SBI Holdings.

The acquisition will allow Bitbank to leverage the financial services and business assets of SBI, including its stablecoin and blockchain-related services.

Bitbank President and CEO Noriyuki Hirosue will continue to act in his role, while Tomohiko Kondo, president and CEO of SBI VC Trade, will join the board of Bitbank.
