Senate Rejects Crypto Regulation Bill Amid Partisan Politics
The U.S. Senate dealt a significant blow to the cryptocurrency industry's efforts to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework for the $2 trillion digital asset market.
The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, which was widely viewed as a litmus test for the bill's viability, failed to advance after a 49-50 procedural vote on Tuesday. The outcome fell well short of the 60 votes needed, signaling that the industry's unprecedented political spending spree may have hit its ceiling in Washington.
The industry poured more than $300 million into the 2024 and 2026 election cycles to elect crypto-friendly lawmakers and push its agenda into the political mainstream. Despite this effort, four Republicans joined a united Democratic caucus in voting against the measure.
Kevin Wysocki, head of policy at crypto platform Anchorage Digital, said the sector would continue pressing for favorable policy regardless of party affiliation.
