September Sees Record Crypto Hack Losses Soar 462%

Crypto hack losses skyrocketed by 462% in September to reach $766.49 million, marking the worst month of 2026 so far. The total surpassed April's record loss of $646.89 million and also set a new high for incident count, with PeckShield logging 55 major hacks.

The two largest incidents were Bitget losing roughly $387 million and Liquid Network losing about $320 million, although most of the latter was returned by self-proclaimed white hat hackers.

Together, these breaches account for a staggering 92% of September's total losses. The remaining 53 incidents cost around $59 million combined.
