Solana Cuts Slot Time in Half to Four Slots Per Second

Solana's network speed has been boosted with a reduction in its target slot time from 300 milliseconds to 250 milliseconds. This change increases the network's slot production rate to four slots per second.

The new slot time shortens each validator's leader window from 1.2 seconds to one second and reduces the expected epoch duration from about 36 hours to 30 hours.

Although the slot rate increases by nearly 17%, overall processing capacity remains roughly the same because resource limits per slot decrease proportionally.
