SpaceXAI Unleashes 420,000 Nvidia GPUs in November Compute Push
SpaceXAI, a leading AI research and development company, plans to activate approximately 420,000 Nvidia GPUs in November, a move that will nearly double the cluster's size in a few months. This is part of a broader effort to meet fresh compute commitments, particularly in support of Grok, the company's family of AI models, including Grok 4.7. To accommodate the expanded cluster, SpaceXAI is building a 1.2-gigawatt power plant.
The November activation is a significant step towards reaching the company's longer-term target of infrastructure equivalent to 50 million H100-class GPUs by 2030. This goal is consistent with Elon Musk's emphasis on close partnerships with Nvidia. The company has already leased over 220,000 GPUs from Colossus 1 to Anthropic, a rival in the model race, in a potential $84.5 billion leasing relationship.
The Colossus cluster, located in Memphis, Tennessee, currently houses approximately 780,000 Nvidia GPUs, with plans to bring 660,000 additional GPUs online by year-end. If successful, the total fleet would reach approximately 1.44 million, making it one of the largest AI clusters in the world.
The development highlights the growing strategic importance of power and compute resources in AI research and development. As the company continues to push the boundaries of AI, it remains to be seen whether the November activation will meet its targets and what implications this will have for the broader AI landscape.
