Stablecoins Surge Past Bitcoin in Africa's Crypto Market
Stablecoins are taking center stage in Africa's crypto market, surpassing bitcoin speculation as the main driver of activity. According to Absa digital assets head Rob Downes, stablecoin flows across the bank's African markets have more than doubled over the past four years.
This shift away from bitcoin is significant, as stablecoins are seen as a more practical and stable option for financial transactions. With their value pegged to a fiat currency, they offer a lower-risk alternative to cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.
Downes' comment highlights the growing importance of stablecoins in Africa's digital assets market.
