Stripe-Advent Bid Puts 400M Users On Crypto Rails
A reported $53 billion bid by Stripe and Advent International for PayPal signals a significant shift in the digital payments landscape. The deal would combine Stripe's merchant-focused infrastructure with PayPal's consumer network, Venmo franchise, and existing crypto products.
The merged platform could process an estimated $3.7 trillion annually, making it a major player in the industry. Industry executives see this as a bet that whoever closes the gap between 'transaction processed' and 'transaction defensible under audit' fastest controls the next decade of digital payments.
According to Joe David, CEO of Nephos Group, PayPal's value dropped from $360 billion to $36 billion not because people stopped using digital payments, but because legacy systems struggled with cross-border transactions and crypto compliance.
