Tether Freezes $550M in Iranian-Linked Funds Amid Growing Regulatory Scrutiny
Tether has frozen $550 million in Iranian-linked USDT at the request of a U.S. agency, highlighting its expanding role in financial enforcement.
This move comes as the company's stablecoin, USDT, continues to grow in popularity with a massive $4.4 trillion dollar transaction volume in Q4 2025.
Tether's CEO Paolo Ardoino defended the company's stance on freezing funds, stating that public blockchains provide visibility for investigators where cash does not.
Ardoino added that Tether will assist law enforcement whenever provided with 'credible information' to freeze assets, indicating a commitment to compliance.
