Tether Freezes Over $550M in USDT Linked to Iran Sanctions
Tether, the issuer of the USDT stablecoin, has played a significant role in helping U.S. authorities freeze assets linked to the Central Bank of Iran and sanctions networks.
In 2026, Tether assisted in freezing approximately $550 million in USDT, with over $344 million being frozen in April across two addresses linked to the central bank.
The U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) later added these addresses to its sanctions records as digital currency addresses belonging to the Central Bank of Iran.
In July, an additional $130 million in USDT was frozen across four wallets. The total amount involved in Iran-linked actions during the year reached approximately $550 million.
