Treasury Shift Could Spark Bitcoin 'Explosive Catalyst'
Bitcoin could see a significant boost if the US Treasury shifts its focus toward shorter-term debt, according to Fundstrat's Sean Farrell. The analyst believes that this shift would be an 'explosive catalyst' for the cryptocurrency, as it would lead to currency debasement. In the last six months, DeFi tokens have outpaced Bitcoin, with Uniswap rising 189%, Aerodrome Finance up 157%, Kamino up 129%, and Aave up 93% versus a 27% rise for BTC.
Farrell pointed to the Treasury's next quarterly refunding announcement, which is expected around November 2. He noted that the announcement will determine the government's plan for funding itself, and that a reduction or suspension of long-term debt issuance would be a significant development. This, he argued, would create money in the private market and lead to currency debasement.
Farrell also highlighted the growth of tokenization, which he believes will benefit Solana, Aave, Uniswap, Aerodrome, and Kamino. He cited Solana's success in bringing real-world assets on-chain and Aave's position as a blue-chip lending platform.
However, Farrell also warned that the market could be due for a consolidation, with the share of tokens trading above their 200-day moving average pushing past 80%. He described this as a 'yellow flag', and advised investors to remain cautious.
