Trump Family Crypto Ventures Cost Investors $4.7 Billion, Group Estimates
An investigation by Public Citizen has found that investors have lost at least $4.7 billion in cryptocurrency-related ventures pursued by U.S. President Donald Trump and his family since 2022.
The analysis covered several projects, including the governance token of World Liberty Financial (WLFI), a decentralized finance project; the Trump NFT trading cards launched in 2022; the official TRUMP memecoin; and Trump Media's digital asset management operations.
According to Public Citizen, approximately $3.2 billion of the total estimated losses stemmed from the TRUMP memecoin, with investors losing money due to a transfer of wealth to early buyers rather than simply evaporated funds.
President Trump's own earnings are estimated to have been substantial, with Public Citizen calculating that he earned $7.2 million from NFT licensing fees and royalties; more than $600 million from World Liberty token sales and equity divestments; $635 million in memecoin licensing fees; and $197 million in returns related to capital contributions to World Liberty.
