UK FCA Opens Doors to Regulated Crypto Firms
The UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has announced that it will begin authorizing crypto firms to operate in the country, marking a significant milestone for the industry.
From September 30, 2026, crypto companies can apply for authorization from the FCA, which will bring them under full regulatory scrutiny. This means they must meet clear standards covering consumer protection, safeguarding, market integrity, and financial resilience.
The new regime is expected to come into force on October 25, 2027, and firms must apply by February 28, 2027, to continue operating in the UK. The FCA has emphasized that authorization is not automatic and companies will need to demonstrate they meet the required standards.
Dominic Cashman, director of authorisation at the FCA, said: 'The UK's new crypto regime will give consumers greater protections and firms a clear framework to operate in. Firms can now apply for authorisation and start preparing for regulation.'
