Uniswap Collaborates on Compliant DeFi Pools for Japan's Financial Institutions
A group of companies, including Uniswap Labs, Base, and Nyx Foundation, is working on a Japan-focused DeFi project that would use Uniswap v4 hooks for pool controls. The project aims to create institutional-grade DeFi infrastructure for Japan, with a target completion date of mid-2027. The proposed system would use Uniswap v4 hooks to build a compliant liquidity-pool framework, including AML and counter-terrorism-financing mechanisms and investor-protection rules within pools.
The project also plans to explore AI-driven vaults, stablecoins, and strategies for liquidity in real-world assets. However, the details of these components and how they would connect to the proposed pools are still unclear. The developers have not publicly defined the restrictions, governance rights, deployment chain, or upgrade process, leaving many questions unanswered.
Uniswap v4 hooks are external smart contracts attached to individual pools, which can affect who manages a pool and intercept or change the execution flow at specified points. However, the largest unresolved issue is governance, as no source explains who can write the hook code or who may update, disable, or override its controls after launch.
