Visa Tests Stablecoins for Cross-Border Payments Every Day of the Week
Visa is testing the use of stablecoins to settle cross-border payments every day of the week, including weekends and holidays. The company has partnered with Nium for a pilot project under Singapore's BLOOM initiative, which aims to connect traditional payment systems with stablecoin rails while preserving existing security and compliance controls.
The trial will use regulated USD and euro-backed stablecoins, but Visa has not disclosed the specific tokens involved. The focus is on settlement infrastructure between institutions, rather than how customers initiate transactions.
Visa's CEO Ryan McInerney has described the project as part of a broader shift in how money moves, with the goal of establishing interoperability between traditional and stablecoin-based rails while keeping compliance requirements embedded directly in the settlement process.
