Wealthy Investors Plan to Boost Crypto Holdings Despite Market Downturn
A new survey from CoinShares reveals that wealthy investors in major economies are not only holding cryptocurrencies but also plan to increase their allocations, even after a market downturn. The survey, which included 2,230 investors with at least $500,000 in investable assets across seven countries, found that digital asset ownership ranged from 54% in Sweden to about 70% in the US, UK, Germany, and Switzerland.
The findings indicate strong investor intent, with at least 85% of current crypto holders in five of the seven countries planning to boost their exposure by 2026. The February 2026 downturn did not dampen enthusiasm; more respondents across all countries said the sell-off made them more likely to invest rather than less.
Bitcoin (BTC) remains the dominant holding, owned by 80% of digital asset investors on average. However, many Bitcoin holders also diversify into other assets, with 89% of BTC investors holding additional digital assets. The survey also highlights generational differences, with younger investors allocating roughly double the amount to digital assets compared to older investors in four countries.
Despite investor enthusiasm, financial advisers appear to be lagging in their engagement with cryptocurrencies. About four in 10 investors working with advisers in several countries reported that their advisers were overly cautious about digital assets. Ric Edelman, founder of the Digital Assets Council of Financial Professionals, suggested that advisers' slow adoption is due to limited knowledge and a lack of incentives to learn.
