XRP Surges in South Korea as Retail Investors Flock to Crypto Exchanges
The South Korean crypto market has experienced an extreme market imbalance due to a sudden surge in XRP trading volume. Retail investors, who had initially fled technology stocks, have redirected their attention and funds towards XRP, driving its price up.
According to CoinMarketCap's Upbit data, the daily trading volume in the XRP/KRW pair has reached $319 million, accounting for 21.86% of all activity on the exchange.
The current craze is a direct continuation and escalation of events that began last Friday, when Korean traders started redirecting their money from technology stocks to crypto exchanges. This 'great rotation' has resulted in a significant increase in trading volumes, with Upbit's daily turnover surging 250% to $1.8 billion on Friday.
The XRP price has broken above its long-term downtrend, reaching $1.51 (around 2,073 won). The 'Kimchi premium', which measures the difference between local and global prices, remains firmly in negative territory at around -0.5%.
