XRP's Falling Threshold: What It Means for Wallet Holders
The threshold for holding XRP to be in the top 10% of wallet holders has been dropping even as the price falls, and this trend reveals something surprising about who actually controls the supply.
At $1.39, the current price of XRP, it takes approximately 2,120 units to rank in the top 10%, according to XRPScan's rich list as of September 6, 2026. This is worth around $2,947.
The surprising part is that this threshold has been falling even as XRP has decreased by 55.56% from a year ago. The distribution of XRP holdings shows that about 5.66 million wallets, or 73% of all XRP addresses, hold fewer than 100 units, while only 32,054 wallets, or about 0.4%, hold more than 100,000 units.
This uneven distribution helps explain why the top 10% threshold can fall even as the number of XRP wallets keeps growing. A person with a hardware wallet, an exchange account, and an old backup wallet could appear as three separate wallets, while millions of exchange customers could appear as one address.
