Zcash Targets 50K Private Payments Per Second With Tachyon Integration
Zcash developers have taken an important step towards making private transactions faster and more scalable. They've integrated part of Project Tachyon's work into Zakura Common, a cryptography library that's already used for private transaction creation.
The goal is to reach over 50,000 private payments per second, but current usage remains far below this target. Shielded activity averaged about 11,700 transactions per day in the seven days leading up to September 21, and has since dropped to around 6,200 daily transactions as of September 28.
The Tachyon project aims to reduce the burden on nodes by combining proofs from many payments, rather than having each node verify individual transactions. This requires more memory, which is where Zakura Common comes in - its optimized cryptographic code will help make this process faster and more efficient.
