BlackRock Unveils Tokenized Share Classes for European ICS Funds
BlackRock has launched tokenised share classes for its Institutional Cash Series (ICS) money market funds in Europe, making it possible to access on-chain cash investments across 15 markets. The new share classes are available in sterling, euro, and US dollar denominations.
The move represents the largest institutional tokenised fund launch in Europe by assets under management, with a combined AUM of approximately $311 billion as at June 30. Twelve distinct share classes have been issued across six funds, covering both distributing and accumulating variants.
BlackRock has partnered with Kinexys by J.P. Morgan for the tokenisation layer, which enables 24/7 peer-to-peer transferability between approved investor wallets via smart contracts. The tokens are minted on the Ethereum blockchain.
