Canada's AI Minister Seeks Balance Between Innovation and Safety
Canada's Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry Evan Solomon is tasked with balancing AI innovation and safety concerns. With over 150,000 Canadians employed in AI, the sector represents the fastest-growing part of the economy.
The government has invested over $400 million in healthcare AI, citing successful deployments in hospitals for applications such as surgical training and patient wait-time management.
Solomon emphasized that trust and safety are foundational requirements for achieving widespread AI adoption. 'Adoption moves at the speed of trust,' he said. 'If it's not safe, you're not going to use it.'
