Dollar Dominates Cuba's Informal Market
The US dollar has continued its upward trend in Cuba's informal market, with prices rising to 741 Cuban pesos (CUP) as of Sunday, September 27. This represents an increase of 8.5 pesos from the previous day and a 4% rise compared to seven days ago.
The high demand for dollars among Cubans seeking to protect their savings against peso depreciation has contributed to this trend. The dollar's price has fluctuated between a low of 673 CUP and the current high of 741 CUP over the past month, with an overall increase of 68.5 pesos.
The euro remains stable at 842 CUP but is the most expensive currency in the Cuban parallel market, exceeding the dollar by 101 pesos. The MLC has declined slightly to around 483 CUP due to limited circulation and restricted use compared to cash currencies.
