European Central Bank (ECB) Governing Council member Primoz Dolenc suggested that the central bank may need to take less monetary policy action if financial conditions continue to tighten. Speaking to Bloomberg Television in Bangkok during the International Monetary Fund’s annual meetings, Dolenc highlighted a significant repricing in markets. He noted that if financial market conditions tighten further, the ECB’s required policy adjustments might be less extensive than previously anticipated.
The comments come as financial markets undergo shifts that could influence the ECB’s decision-making process. Dolenc emphasized that the central bank’s actions would depend on the evolving market environment. His remarks reflect a cautious approach, acknowledging the potential for external factors to reduce the need for aggressive policy measures.
