New Zealand’s Reserve Bank (RBNZ) is leaving its next interest rate decision flexible, according to chief economist Paul Conway. Speaking to Bloomberg Television on the sidelines of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank meetings in Bangkok, Conway described the late October rate call as “wide open.”
Conway emphasized that the RBNZ aims to maintain optionality, with the possibility of either a zero or a 25 basis point adjustment on the table. This comes as inflation pressures continue to build, adding complexity to the decision-making process.
The uncertainty reflects the RBNZ’s cautious approach amid evolving economic conditions. Conway’s remarks highlight the bank’s intent to remain adaptable in response to shifting data and external factors.
