EU and Canada Forge Closer Ties Amid US Reliance Concerns
Canada and the European Union are strengthening their economic and strategic ties as questions rise about their reliance on the US economy and financial system.
According to sources, Canada is considering a closer relationship with the EU through a proposed 'associate membership' framework that would deepen cooperation in areas such as trade, defense, energy, and critical minerals.
Critical of the US, former deputy director of Global Affairs Canada's China Division Jeff Mahon said 'growing mistrust of the US among key allies' is driving this move.
