Nigerian Police Arrest Six Over Alleged €8,900 Counterfeiting Operation
The Oyo State Police Command in Nigeria has made six arrests over an alleged counterfeiting operation involving €8,900 worth of counterfeit Euro currency.
The suspects were apprehended on September 1, 2026, during a patrol operation around the Labo, Wesley area of Ibadan, the state capital. Police operatives intercepted three men traveling on a motorcycle and conducted a search that led to the recovery of 89 pieces of suspected counterfeit €100 notes.
The suspects were identified as Tijani Saheed, 50, Oni Oladapo, 67, Adebayo Saheed, 52, Hammed Karemu, 25, and two others. The police stated that the roles played by each suspect are still being investigated.
During questioning, the suspects allegedly confessed to the crime and led investigators to a location where they had purchased the counterfeit currency. A forensic search of the premises resulted in the recovery of items suspected to have been used in producing the counterfeit notes, ultimately leading to the arrest of an alleged producer.
