Norwegian Krone Surges on Crude Oil Rally
The Norwegian krone has continued its upward trend against the US dollar, maintaining its downward trajectory. On August 28, the krone reached a high of 9.3970 kroner per dollar, and since then, it has remained strong due to rising crude oil prices. This has provided a tailwind for the krone as a resource currency, with market participants widely sharing the view that increased crude oil prices are reinforcing krone strength.
In Tokyo trading on September 3, the dollar-krone pair touched the 9.30 range, pressured by selling on rallies. The current rate is hovering around 9.3165 kroner per dollar. Meanwhile, the krone is also soft against the yen, with krone-yen falling to the 16.99-yen range amid broad-based yen strength.
The firmness in the crude oil market is a key factor boosting export revenues for Norway, one of the world's leading oil producers. This has made the dollar-krone pair vulnerable to shifts in risk appetite and interest rate differentials against major currencies.
