SNP Warns of 'Brutal Budget' as UK Faces High Inflation

The UK is heading towards another 'brutal budget', according to the SNP's Commons leader, Dave Doogan. He warns that tax and spending plans could bring a 'bad case of Westminster deja vu'.

The comments follow Prime Minister Andy Burnham's admission that the upcoming Budget next month will be 'challenging'. The UK is already facing high inflation, with Consumer Prices Index (CPI) reaching 3.1% in August, driven by elevated petrol and diesel costs.

Andrew Bailey, governor of the Bank of England, warned this week that volatile global energy prices could push inflation even higher, making it more likely that interest rates will need to rise to meet the 2% target.

The SNP's Dave Doogan alleges that Labour ministers are 'softening people up' for a budget of cuts and tax rises. He claims that instead of developing a plan to put money in people's pockets, the Labour Party is focused on preparing for another brutal budget in Brexit Britain.
