UK Inflation Hits 3.1% Amid Fuel Price Surge
UK inflation has risen to 3.1% in the year to August, up from 2.9% in July.
The Office for National Statistics attributes this increase primarily to rising transport costs, particularly motor fuels and long-haul airfares.
Average forecourt prices have reached multi-year highs, with petrol averaging 170.54p per litre and diesel at 192.86p.
The Bank of England is set to review its 3.75% interest rate on Thursday, but analysts do not expect an immediate rate hike.
