UK Inflation Rises to 3.1% on Transport Costs
The UK's Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate rose to 3.1% in August, as expected, due to higher transport costs, particularly for motor fuels.
According to Continuum Economics, this increase is largely attributed to a reversal of the short-lived dip in petrol and diesel prices seen in July.
Core CPI, which excludes food, alcohol, and tobacco, remained unchanged at 2.6%, indicating that energy costs were primarily responsible for the increase in headline inflation.
The Bank of England is likely to be monitoring these developments closely, as they may influence its interest rate decisions later this year.
