Vietnam and Canada Seek Deeper Investment Ties Amid Growing Trade
General Secretary and President To Lam attended a business dialogue between Vietnam and Canada, which was jointly organized by the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance and Global Affairs Canada. Canadian Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu welcomed the event and emphasized that agreements signed by the two countries have created a strong foundation for trade and investment ties.
To Lam spoke highly of the sound friendship between Vietnam and Canada, built on trust, mutual respect, and win-win cooperation. He noted that Vietnam-Canada relations now extend beyond the bilateral framework due to Vietnam's increasing connections with ASEAN and the Asia-Pacific region, while Canada possesses capital, technology, knowledge, management capacity, and business and financial networks integrated with North America and the global economy.
The two sides agreed to deepen investment ties, strengthen value-chain linkages, and increase substantive results. To Lam urged businesses from both countries to focus on stronger investment ties, particularly by connecting Canada's long-term capital with high-quality projects in Vietnam. He also encouraged Canadian businesses to invest not only in physical assets but also in technology, research and development, data, digital solutions, clean technology, and industries capable of improving the productivity of the economy.
