$1 Billion Commerce Award for IBM's Quantum Foundry
IBM has secured a $1 billion Commerce Department award for its Anderon subsidiary, a move that reduces the company's burden in proving quantum manufacturing's commercial scale. The federal government's funding will be matched by IBM's own investment of $1 billion.
Anderon is operating a 300-millimeter quantum-wafer foundry in Albany, New York, which will manufacture technology for superconducting qubits, input-output signaling and readout components, with additional quantum architectures expected to follow. The facility has already begun production, and the funding math is significant, as it reduces IBM's burden while potentially turning Anderon into manufacturing infrastructure for outside quantum-chip designers.
The IBM share price gained approximately 0.2% to $237.87 on Thursday morning, and the company's valuation picture remains relatively restrained, with its share price sitting about 2% below its $242.72 GF Value estimate.
