A lawsuit has been filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California against Anthropic, OpenAI, SpaceXAI, and Google, alleging that they collectively slowed down the pace of artificial intelligence development.

The plaintiffs claim that the companies' coordination violates antitrust laws and could reduce the value consumers receive from paid AI subscriptions.

The lawsuit centers on an essay published by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei on September 12, in which he proposed a three-stage framework for moderating the pace of technological advancement and giving safety measures more time to develop.

Amodei's proposal was supported by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, SpaceXAI CEO Elon Musk, and Google DeepMind chair Demis Hassabis, who expressed agreement with the broader approach on the same day as Amodei published his essay.
