Airport Lounges Ban Sleeping: A Wake-Up Call for Travelers
Major U.S. airport lounges have a surprising policy: no sleeping allowed, even in comfortable chairs. This rule applies to popular lounges like United Club and Delta Sky Club, as well as American Express Centurion Lounges.
The ban is in place to preserve space, safety, and lounge atmosphere for active travelers. While enforcement varies, staff may wake dozing guests who occupy multiple seats or appear unwell.
Lounge operators cite crowding, liability, security, and passenger flow as reasons for the ban. They also note that lounges rarely announce boarding, which can result in missed flights if a traveler falls asleep.
