Amazon Brings Satellite Internet to Uzbekistan's Remote Regions

Amazon has partnered with Uzbekistan's leading telecommunications operator, Uztelecom, to bring high-quality satellite internet to remote and hard-to-reach regions of Uzbekistan. The agreement was announced during the 5th Tashkent International Investment Forum on the first day of ICT Week Uzbekistan 2026.

Uztelecom's affiliate UZ-SAT will serve as an authorized distributor of Amazon Leo, which will use satellite technology to create and deliver new connectivity solutions to customers in areas where traditional networks are difficult to deploy. The agreement advances Uzbekistan's goal of building a unified digital environment that reaches every community.

Uztelecom currently provides connectivity to 96% of communities, operates more than 234,000 miles (378,000 kilometers) of fiber-optic infrastructure, and serves over 13 million users. However, the country's diverse geography means some areas remain difficult and costly to connect through terrestrial networks alone.

Amazon Leo is designed to complement Uztelecom's existing infrastructure, extending connectivity where it's needed most. The system uses an initial constellation of more than 3,000 satellites connected to a secure, global network of ground gateway antennas and dedicated fiber infrastructure.
