Amazon Cargo Plane Crashes at Miami Airport, Killing Five

An Amazon cargo plane crashed at Miami International Airport on Sunday, killing five people and injuring others. The jet, which was operated by 21 Air, a cargo carrier based in North Carolina, overran the runway while landing.

According to flight data, the pilot attempted to abort an unsteady landing before smashing into a van and killing five people inside. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy said that investigators are reviewing flight data and cockpit recordings to determine what happened in the seconds leading up to the crash.

Homendy also noted that the pilots may have hesitated when attempting a go-around, which could have been executed sooner. The NTSB will interview the pilot and co-pilot on Wednesday to gather more information.
