Amazon Doubles Down on Robotics with New Indiana Facility
Amazon is expanding its robotics operations with a new $100 million facility in Greenwood, Indiana. The plant, set to open by 2028, will be the company's fourth robot-manufacturing site.
This investment comes after Amazon announced plans for another robotics hub in Austin, Texas last month. With these two new facilities, the number of Amazon's robot-manufacturing plants will double.
Amazon acquired Kiva Systems for $775 million in 2012 and has since deployed over a million robots to sort, lift, and move packages inside its warehouses. According to Holly Sullivan, vice president of worldwide economic development at Amazon, this investment has created high-paying jobs and reduced workplace injuries by more than 40%.
