Chevron Seismic Surveys Set for Greek Blocks this December
A US energy giant, Chevron, is set to begin seismic surveys in several blocks of the Ionian Sea, Southern Peloponnese and Southern Crete in December. The surveys are a crucial step before any potential drilling can take place.
The Greek government has confirmed that the project is on track, with Minister of Environment and Energy Stavros Papastavrou meeting with Chevron's head for Greece, Beatrice Bienvenu, to discuss the timetable for the launch of seismic surveys by the end of 2026. The government aims to develop and mature the hydrocarbons market in Greece while adhering to environmental requirements and safety conditions.
Another key meeting is scheduled today with ExxonMobil's Vice President of Global Exploration, John Ardill, as part of Greece's energy diplomacy efforts. The two companies are planning an exploration well in Block 2 of the Ionian Sea in early 2027.
