Amazon Eyes Data Center Development in Posey County, Indiana

Amazon is considering developing a data center in Posey County, Indiana. According to an Amazon spokesperson, the tech giant is in the early stages of deciding whether to proceed with the project.

The potential development was discussed during a public hearing on proposed amendments to the county's unified development ordinance. The focus of public comment was on the regulations governing data center construction.

Amazon Web Services' representative, Mike Schopmeyer, attended the meeting and stated that the company has moved away from its initial location and is seeking a new site that is industrial and closer to highways.

Schopmeyer emphasized that Amazon has pledged not to file for any permits until the unified development ordinance process is complete. He also noted that the current amendments are overly restrictive and need further work.
