Amazon Halts Cargo Operations with 21 Air Amid Crash Investigation
Amazon has suspended its partnership with cargo airline 21 Air after one of its planes crashed at Miami International Airport, killing five people. The Boeing 767, carrying packages including contact lenses, overshot the runway by over a mile on September 6, before smashing into a van carrying workers at a plane cleaning company.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the cause of the crash, which will examine factors such as the pilots' actions, air traffic control, the jet's maintenance history, and the airline's practices. The stormy weather at the time of the crash may also be a factor.
21 Air leases 18 planes, including 13 Boeing 767s and five 757s, with at least six of those planes leased from Amazon affiliates and at least three from DHL. The airline's statement said it was 'confident in our safety policies, procedures and training', but the partnership suspension may impact its business while the investigation continues.
